Stuurman

Requirements

Stuurman runs on your own machine and uses your own accounts. Five things to have ready.

  • 5things to have ready
  • 1optional
  • 0files to edit

A Mac or Linux machine

macOS or Linux, on amd64 or arm64.

The Ship runs there in Docker, and by default you reach the Bridge from a browser on the same machine. Crew members can reach any public address, including a service this machine exposes on its own: keep nothing there that you would not want them to reach.

Docker with Compose

On a Mac, Docker Desktop.

Docker Compose was tested on v2.38.2 and v5.5.1; older versions are untried.

A Claude subscription

The crew's turns run on it and count against its usage limit.

You make a token with claude setup-token and paste it into the Bridge. It gives full use of your subscription. The Helm keeps it encrypted and never gives it to a crew member, but anyone who has the host and the Ship's .env file can read it.

A Slack workspace

One where you may create apps.

The Helm makes an app for itself and one for each crew member. The free plan is limited to 10 apps, so the crew is at most nine, fewer if other apps are installed. Crew members make public channels, so choose a workspace where that is welcome.

A browser with passkeys

A recent Safari, Chrome or Firefox.

With a password manager or the device's own passkeys. The Bridge has no password: your passkey makes you the Captain.

Optional: GitHub

A private repository for the Ship's files.

Give the Helm an empty private repository of yours and it pushes the Ship's files there each night, after a scan for secrets. The Ship works without one.
